Hi, we are looking to take on an apprentice or trainee and as my background is as an electrician I thought this might be a good place to build on other people experience and to ensure we do things right and don't waste time and money. As we are suppliers to OEM's and machine builders in the specialist field of factory automation (combined PLC+HMI's) I would be keen to hear from any one with similar experiences. What course's would you recommend? Whats the best way to recruit? (I can't believe how much a local paper wants to charge for an ad!) Any hot tips? Thanks in advance.

Contact a local training provider, most will have a bunch of wannabes on their books, looking for an opportunity and if they haven't, then they will work with you to source one. This will cost you nothing, and once you have your apprentice they will tailor the training course to suit what you need him or her to do. There are hundreds of NVQ units that will fit, but the training provider will sort it all out for you. Search for Group training associations (GTA's) in your area, there should be a good handful. The training provider will walk you through everything you need to know and do.

Cheers…………Howard
