Hi all,
just starting out and would like you to share your thoughts on what testing equipment you'd recommend. I currently dont have any! (apart from the gs38 voltage tester.

I regularly use:

Megger MFT 1552

Megger V2 Voltstick

Socket & See SOK32 Socket tester

R2 Wander lead

Socket & see SS130 Socket Breakout

Calculator to confirm ring continuity/R1+R2 values

Good set of Allen keys

Good set of insulated drivers (Irazola etc)

Good quality torch

Good quality head lamp

Laptop to key in data directly on PIR's

I am of the fluke camp! I have an old 1651 bought off ebay a few years ago for peanuts.....I love it, find it easy to use as do the guys that work with me, it bounces well and is easy for aging fat bald men with failing eyesight!!!!!

I have used,

a Metral...HATED it, HATED it, HATED IT< WHAT A LOAD OF PANTS
A Megger...15something Great bit of kit, (Used to my fluke though)
A KT51...(Kewtech)Found this a bit clummsy and difficult but OK, worth a look

If I was buying again I would look at a newish fluke or a Megger 15 what ever it is!

megger 1552. super bit of kit. but lock it in the van if you are doing a job for a pikey

i use a megger 1553 with the Software pack.. but tbh i will be selling it soon as it seems the fluke is more suitable for what im after.

Used a megger 1552 for years with no complaints, tuff and up to the job. Also have a DI-log 9083p off ebay cheap as chips second hand as a spare and like it.

On many larger installations, terminals on MCCB's and main switches are of the Allen type, if we're not disconnecting those items then we always check tightness of terminals.

Also, many main switchboards have service panels held by Allen bolts.
