Hi All

Which testing kit do people recommend for more diy use which doesn't cost silly money.

Like socket testers etc. Is there a better socket tester than the Martindale ez150?

Or a kit similar to the kewtech 17th edition testing kit.

Thanks

DIY, testing, don't go together, or shouldn't

Yes.

How can it be such a bad thing to ask what I've asked? At the end of the day you wouldn't buy it if you didn't know what it was or did.

Thanks.

Yes just looking at what testing Equipment people rate that isn't overly expensive. I know meter installers use buzz it but the ez150 seems to test a lot more.

The "testing" available with socket testers is limited in scope and whilst it can be useful as indication it would be just as well to get the cheapest available as the extra "tests" are just an approximation that does not really help much.
If you were to get a multifunction tester then you would be able to test much more effectively,if you know how to use it, however they are not going to be cheap.
However you would not need any advanced functions so you could go for something like this as this will be about as cheap as possible and still to be able to comply with the wiring regulations.
For a multimeter then you can get cheap ones with lots of functions, accuracy will not be so good but useful for comparison testing.

I'd say it's better to test a diy install than not at all.
Agreed, from a socket tester you can't do dead testing but you'll still not leave it with as many potential faults. It would check polarity and CPC continuity as live texts which wouldn't be noticed otherwise.
However it's no substitute for proper testing but we will leave the op to do his own risk assessment on that.

I'm selling my MI3000 soon.
Fantastic bit of kit, really easy to use and for a DIYer it's cheap at £150.00

Comes with all the probs, Croc clips and cables including the plug.

Out of calerbration but is more than fine for diy work.

I'm getting a MFT1731 now to replace this one

Might be worth popping it in the for sale section mate. Although if the highlighted bit is true I don't want it lol.
