do you lads use a voltage tester and proving unit for your assessments or are they ok with using your all in one meter for the voltage during safe isolation? then prove your meter on the live side of the isolator on the tails?

cheers:)

Don't think your allowed to use mft for safe isolation you need something gs38 approved like a fluke t100 or like

Multifunction testers cannot be used for compliance with gs38 as they can be adjusted.

The whole point of the gs38 tester and proving unit is that it tests voltage and nothing else... resulting in no possible chance of incompetence form the user.. therefore a guarantee the safe isolation procedure will not be flawed.

Does that mean the Fluke T5-1000 shouldn't be used to test safe isolation, as I can't find anywhere where it states its GS38 complient?
And given what you said above....... the fact that it has other functions means it would be possible to have it switched onto the wrong setting?

i use the t5 1000 for proving. if i got to the point of not being able to determine the tester was not on the voltage setting rather than the cont i think i would call it a day

I hear ya Phil

But am wondering if the powers that be would see it that way, and I'm sure some sparks would use the very same argument for using a MFT.

The reason I asked is because I have a T5 and don't want to fail/cock-up an assessment because I used the wrong device.

I guess it would come don't to how pedantic the assessor was? If used correctly in combination with a proving unit then I don't see why using a T5 would be a problem. But then there is that crucial part 'correctly'... As someone has already intimated, if the device can only do one thing then how can you not do it 'correctly'. That was retorical btw ;)

Cheers
