I was having a look at one of the other forums and a guy asked a question something like he was changing white double sockets to fancy metal sockets and should he do a few tests like earth, polarity and rcd times. Even tho he did not have to do any certs. Opinion was very mixed on if he should test or not. I was just wondering what you guys would do. Personally I would test if ony for my own piece of mind. Makes it easier to walk away when you know it is safe.

Same here.

At the end of the day, once you've worked in someones house, if anything happens afterwards then it'll come back to you as you were the last person to work there.
So correct operation of RCD and a ZS are always done by myself. Along with a visual inspection of the earthing and bonding and other bits, and a danger notification pad at the ready for the odd occasion.

Also, if ZS is high then I may measure the site supply characteristics as long as client is ok with shutdown. I normally wont charge for this either, I consider it doing the job to the best of my ability, and not having to do extra's.

IMO opinion a quick test should be done.

How long does it take? It's worth it, and personally I try and test FIRST so if i pick up any faults, they are found before I did anything, because we all know 'it worked fine before'. Can also pick up some easy money from ineffective RCDs etc.

EDIT: also as malcom said, doing a little minor take 2 minutes and not only leaves the customer with something 'professional looking', but leaves a nice little aper trail showing that you've done everything correctly next time a house burns down from some skinflint wiring a shower into a lighting circuit.

And as it's got your name and number on it a nice little reminder that you do a good job :D
