Hey guys just wondering as I’m about to replace my thermo fan which has died after a big trip in my LS swap landcruiser. My question is I have bought the same electric thermo fan that was on the car but the wiring looks like it had bypassed any sort of capacitor or just doesn’t have one but my new fan does, should I just wiring it up like the old one was? Or will the fan die if it runs without it? Cheers

is the capacitor for RF suppression? can't see how with D.C. but i fitted LED headight bubs in van and the RF interference from their fans is terrible.

I wired it up how it was previously and it’s working fine so far so we’ll see but I don’t think it was for any RF interference reasons

A couple of photos would deffo help.

I doubt it would be a motor capacitor as such on a DC motor, as Tel suggests it could be a noise suppressor in which case it won't affect the running of the motor. It could also be a speed controller, automotive fans often run at multiple speeds via the ECU depending on coolant temperature and maybe even ambient air temp.
