Hello all,

I hope you might be able to help me solve an issue.

I rent a flat with storage heaters and E7. The Timer Switch for the cheap periods has never worked, so in the past I've just had to move the sliders manually to use the heaters, but now even that doesn't work, as some electrical impulse slides them back again - thus, no heating!

In a way it's good news because there's obviously life in the system, but can anyone a) explain why this is suddenly happening and b) is there a way around it until a sparky comes and sorts it out?

Many thanks in advance,

John

Have you got a phot of the timer?

It sounds like the time is set wrong or the clock is slow and the OFF peg is resetting the manual override.

You may find that the timer for your(and other tenants) E7 supply are in the supply cupboard for the building.
Is there one? Have you had a look? If you can, send a photo.

I'm the tenant. As far as I know I'm the only flat in the building using E7. I'll look for the timing switch when I get home, nobody has found it yet!

Thanks both for being so helpful

John, if you are the tenant of this flat, would it not be better to contact the Landlord? it's his responsibility, and fiddling about with the controls of the E7, may get you in hot water with regards to your tenancy agreement.

Yes I'm talking to my landlord about this. The sliders are on a box next to the fuse box, one for each individual heater. There's nothing on the heaters themselves.

I wish it was as simple as 'just reporting it to my landlord'. We've had a succession of supposed experts not solve the issue, hence asking here.

Could always ask for rent rebate.

My focus is sorting the issue out, not alienating my landlady. Can we stick to that please

Not sure how you are alienating your landlord - you are paying for a service that she is not delivering

Who were these "experts" who have visited?

She needs a spark in that knows what he/shes doing, E7 isnt rocket science, any competant spark should be able to sort this out. Can you upload a pic or possibly email a photo to a mod to upload

Hi,i would ask the landperson,if you can source an expert, yourself, not that you should have to.

You are genuinely limited to what you can fiddle with,in an attempt to rectify this.

Some pictures or a more detailed description of the system, may allow us to work out the issue, and advise further. For instance, how you are billed for your two rates, would help.

Ok, the situation is now clearer. I have a 30 year old timer unit that is connected but defunct. An electrician came round, spotted the issue, and has since told my landlady it's a 2 day job to replace it - he has since disappeared.

Is it just me, or does that sound far-fetched?
