Would need a little more info than you have offered in you query.

What KW is the heating load and are we to presume single phase 230v here and not 3ph?

Depends how much you paid for the timer, if its expensive then it is better to have it switching a contactor that then handles the load and takes all the wear and tear of doing so, if you get a 3 pole contactor you have 2 spare poles as back up down the line, if the timer is relatively inexpensive then run the load through the timer as it is rated AC1 16mp and that will be fine for a 3kw load.

don't think it can handle 16A, you need a contactor or relay.

Thanks for the advice much appreciated.
