Discuss Tool for cutter the steel wire of SWA cable in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

I can honestly say that I've never tried a pipe slice on SWA. But I met a welder/fabricator the other day who had been using one to connect some supplies for welders and swore by his!

It's really good. Quick and neat.
No need to put the swa on a bench or floor, works the same as cutting 15-12-28mm copper.

Looks like some people are starting to call them swa cable strippers, but the cheap plumbing ones work the same, my one was only 6 quid.

I had the pleasure today of terminating 2 different types of SWA.
The sheath and armour of both were similar and normal.
The bedding was completely different.
The Doncaster was easy enough the usual score and pull while twisting.
The other brand was a pain in the hole, very brittle in the cold. Ended up scoring along the length and being less than diplomatic with the cores along the score. I think it was Prysmian.
I've also noticed with Prysmian T&E that it's an equally pain in the hole to strip with flat wire strippers as there is no chalk.

You need to try some of the imported stuff. Sheath that'll destroy any knife and bedding material that seems to be PVC.

A few years ago when I was doing domestic work I swore by Prysmian T&E, I'd complain bitterly if the wholesalers sent me anything else.

Just recently I've been conned into doing some domestic crap again and I'm finding the Prysmian T&E to be more difficult to strip than it should be.
