Discuss Tools and training for automotive electricians in the Auto Electrician Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

With cars of today a laptop and a means of accepting credit card payments as people don't carry that much in cash anymore.

If its Audi's and BMW's then for customer care carry a large jar of Vaseline as this will make the customers experience more "pleasurable".

I was hoping for more than just hand tools and DMM's, do you have any specialised diagnostic equipment and do you have ongoing training for the new technology as it develops?

Judging by some of the vehicle diagnostic tales I've heard most of it is done by trial and error swapping parts until the fault disappears this seems to be the norm with a lot of dealers and garages
A multi channel oscilloscope with a range of pressure transducers and wiring harness breakouts can be a useful bit of kit for fault finding once the initial fault codes are read
The problem you have although manufacturers use a common generic set of fault codes they also have their own exclusive codes which generally requires manufacturer specific software or tools read them

Thank you
I was asking as a matter of interest , being an electrical trade in a different field of expertise.
