Has anyone any experience of installing Trace Heating systems to keep gutters and valleys free of water leaks due to ice damming? Which manufacturers' kit have you installed and would you recommend its installation?

...i do hope THAT gear does not become mainstream, having watched the assorted carry-ons in the PV and insulation installation jobs...i have fitted various trace heat tapes in process and agricultural areas, but they have usually been purchased separate to the rest of the kit. An application such as you described, will,i imagine be beholden to the designers specification.:stooge_curly:

Hi yes I bought it from tlc direct once for an overflow from a boiler and another time for a hole at the end of a lead valley on a roof. The valley had filled up with snow but ice had formed in the outlet hole, so when the sun hit the roof and melted the snow the valley filled up with water and over flowed down through the house. I installed heat tape around the hole to stop ice forming.

....much depends on what you wrapped it round...although,on reflection,i have often thought i could save money on the central heating job,by tailoring a family set of "onesies" out of said tape, and just plugging us all in,of an evening, round a central distro,in the lounge...perfectly safe, cos they're all class too...(see what i did there...)

Where’s most of the heat going to go?

To the sky ... ! It is going to melt ice or snow that may otherwise cause water melted from said ice and snow to back up and overflow the lead box gutter. Insurance against rare events with high financial impact in any building but particularly a traditionally built stone Victorian building.

I like your concept! Even more personal than Infra Red radiant heating.
