Thought it might be interesting to start this thread to see how much electricians can offer each other thanks to experience gained over the years.

Here's my offering:
After installing back boxes i always wipe a bit of vaseline into and covering the threaded hole for the face plate fixing screws to prevent plasterers filling them. Haven't had to re-thread a hole for years.

if you ever have to cut a floorboard between joists, to refit, first get a length of 2"x2" timber about 9" long. hold under where the cut end of your board is to go, then screw through adjacent boards into the 2"x"2. then you have a support for the cut board.
