Hello and Happy New Year:
I have a 1950 Cadillac that has been rewired and updated from 6 volts to 12 volts. One accessory which did not get upgraded is the fan for the underheat seater. It seems to run well with a 12 volt feed at high speed.
The problem is with the 2 speed switch. It is a typical bolt on ceramic switch. When I run the fan on low speed, the switch gets red hot - like burn up the car hot. I have tried 3 different switches rated at 6 or 12 volts, and the result is the same.
Unfortunately running the fan on low is really desirable as the Cadillac throws so much heat on high it is stifling.
Would pulling the fan and having it rewired to 12 volts likely fix this issue? Is there an easier way? Pulling the seat and the fan is a pretty big job - so I's like to make sure it's worth the effort.
