Hi,
I am looking for guidance on the requirement to do portable appliance testing in the USA, in particular the type of equipment you would find in a construction hire shop. Any links to guidance notes and so on would be appreciated.

Thanks

as far as i know pat testing is usually done in military installations and labs.
but rarely done in commercial (unless insurance requires it) and residential pat testing is virtually non existent.
although i pat test, log and register all my equipment and portable devices as as my families items as well
(if for anything just to ease my mind that their stuff will be safe for them to use)

As above, the Yanks PAT test virtually nothing. (no idea about the military side of things). Pat testing is a European affair, that the Yanks haven't and probably never will take on board!! Hell if the don't fully test their installations why would they bother with appliances etc!! lol!!

Your on a dead Duck there i'm afraid!! .... lol!!

Edit.... There may be a slim chance that a hire shop outlet needs to check equipement, etc, but i doubt if it's much more than IR tests!!
