Fitted a new induction hob for customer last yr, and was there sat morning swapping some light switches for her when she mentioned that the one ring of the hob wont work with a certain pan but the pan works on the other 3 rings, and other pans work on the hob that wont work with the 1st pan. This only started when she was frying something and moving pan back and forth. ???

Any ideas?

I got a sore head reading that!
but yeah, ask manufacturer

Ha ha, it give me the headache when she was trying to explain it to me. Just baffles me how that one ring can recognize a certain pan that works on the others. customer doesn't expect me to do anything but i'm interested why it happens.

only thing i can think of, is that any pans that are used on an induction hob should have a high ferritic content, such as cast iron or stainless steel with an iron base. the best way to check this would be to test the pan with a magnet. but then, why would it work on the other 3 hobs if it wasn't ferrous?

or maybe one of the hobs has converted to islam and refuses to cook her pork chops???

Now if the frequency were lower on that one ring, e.g. it is designed to operate at 40kHz and is only operating at 30kHz then a partially magnetic pan would work on the other rings but not this one , however if the other pans are plain steel or with a steel base then they would work on any of the rings.

yeah, good point. an aberration in the resonant frequency on this hob could cause an issue; such as a reduction in output and current.

and it'd be interesting to know what this pan's made of.

she should not be cooking aberrations in a pan. aberrations should be done in the microwave.
