Hi Guys,
I'm not into design etc and never have been really but how do you calculate volt drop on a distribution ring main circuit? Ring circuit say covering a large area supplying various loads/buildings. I was thinking split the ring and work it out as 2 x radial circuits, but 1 radial may have more load on it than the other radial. Thanks

Sorry if this a duplicate but I asked a question, HV or LV Ring?

Im confused here!

Your an Electrician and you state your not into design etc - so how do you do your calcs for your installs when your confirming they meet VD requirements, Zs values etc before you buy and install the materials.... its part of the job tbh to design your work first and confirm it complies not install and hope a rule of thumb gets you a good result.

Most of the distribution rings I have worked on have been operated as an "OPEN RING"what you describe as 2 radials

As Pete says, if the configuration of the ring distribution means that it will be open sometimes, you need to calculate the worst possible radial that could be present in terms of length and load.

Hi Darkwood, I'm not on the tools and when when i was it was only domestic planned by others. But i was asked today by a fellow spark and i couldn't answer. Hence my thought 2 x radials. the question was though for a LV distribution ring ( not open)
