Stupidly dropped my voltage tester on the floor the other day, straight on to a tip which broke clean off...

Been checking out online for a replacement, the basic ones (like I had before) all seem pretty similar regardless of the brand. About £30 for Fluke, Martindale, DiLog etc.

Spotted a couple at about £40 more which have a built in clamp meter... Are these worth having? Or am I better sticking with a standard one and buying a separate clamp?

I thought the idea of voltage testers was that they were single purpose and did not need to change any settings so that the wrong setting could not give incorrect information.

That said if the clamp meter is a decent one then an extra ten pounds for a clamp meter is not to be sneezed at, depends if you have a clamp meter already, and what you are happy with.

If you already have a full range true RMS clamp meter then a cheap current measurer will probably not be worth it.

That crossed my mind.

I don't currently own a clamp meter, it's on the shopping list as I keep getting stuck and wish I had one.

Might stick with a single function voltage tester and get a higher end clamp.

Cheers!
