Hi - first post so go easy.
I've used the search and there is alot of information on qualifications however it seems to be people asking what they can do without basic certs, I have a slightly different question.

So I've got these qualifications;
2330
2391
17th Update
HNC electrical engineering
C and G PV installation before all the MCS rubbish.

I've attained these qualifications whilst working as a technician at a college. I have been teaching the general majority of installation practises in the workshop.
I'm know leaving my role as a technician / storeman (as it's damn boring) to go and help build and run a climbing wall! !
I have not yet assessed the premises but it was previously occupied as such I expect to be making additions to existing circuits such as ring and radial extensions, put in some new circuits for showers and hand dryers to be run from and possible install a system of HID lighting to gain ~ 300 lux at the floor.
I'm not registered with any body such as the NICEIC or Napit etc...
I believe that at the moment with the certs I've got I can do all the work, test and inspect it. And then pay building controls some hideous amount of money to say it's safe. Is that roughly right?

Many thanks, Will

Keep your eyes open for a new climbing wall in Brum before X mas! :D

Hello mate, its my understanding that you pay the fee to labc and they check your work, you dont have to have the 17th edition thats what you pay the fee for. I say this as a good diy'er can do it this way. I cant imagine them arguing with your test results if you have the 2391. Contact the local authority planning dept and they will give you a definitive answer and a price. Good luck with your new venture!

If it is a non-residential property, then you can, generally, do what you want, so long as you adhere to H+S, and Elecrticity at Work regs/Guidelines. Doing it to BS7671 standards would be one way to comply.
There is no need to get Building Control involved in commercial premises.

Alanl has hit the nail on the head, its not domestic therefore no need to get lbc involved. Good luck with your new venture.

So I'd just like to try and clarify,

All the work I carry out, does not need to be reported to any regulations authority and neither do I need to be signed up to a body such as the NIC or NAPIT.
In that case, fantastic.
However, I have always been under the impression that without registering to a body I would need to call out building control. What you're telling me is that because this is a commercial property there is no requirement for it to be *ticked off* (for want of a better word) by the local building control. Clearly as a climbing wall it is going to be used by unskilled / incompetent members of the public.
Strikes me as a bit too straight forward, perhaps I've gotten to use to the red tape of the college. hmph.

So other than the elec. installation certs and PIR there is no other paper work with regards to the council / insurance etc...

Thanks for all your help so far.
Will.
