Hi, I am a fully qualified electrician with my inspection and testing qualifications, for periodic inspection and electrical instalation.
I currently work for a company, where I do alot of testing. But I have my own public liability insurance for doing my own work at evenings and weekends.

Could i issue my own client a perodic inspection report or do i need to have my own business registered, or be registered as self employed?

Cheers

Yea they know. Im only doing the odd small job when i get them. Im not super bisy doing work for myself. Maybe 5 or 6 jobs a month.

I'm guessing this reference is to your employer - not HMRC

and now you've admitted to doing cash jobs ............... best you get your house in order with HMRC................

Ok. Cheers. So I can still be registered as self employed. And also be working full time for a company?

Yes, perfectly in order to be employed and self-employed at the same time. There is a time limit for notifying HMRC of self employment.

I think you also need public indemnity insurance.

There is no requirement in law for Public Liability Insurance or Professional Indemnity Insurance, but you may choose to insure the risk. The Part P bodies generally require members to have PL insurance, plus PI insurance if approved for EICRs.

one of the real ball aches when a fellow sparky writes in and asks a perfectly legit question about testing, he gets the holy Joes advising him about registering with the HMRC, letting his employers know that he's doing a bit on the side, F@ck off and answer the question the guy's asked for crying out loud.
That's it I feel better now!!
