Hi

I am a qualified electrician with nvq 3, am2. I'm just about to sit my 18th and I will be doing my 2391 in October. I'm just over 2 years out of my apprenticeship.

I just want some advice as to what other courses/training would be beneficial to my career. I have some funding which I need to use next year and don't know what to do with it. In the future I would like to have my own company. I have thought about 2396 design course but I'm not sure how beneficial this would be to me. I don't know what the future holds for the electrical industry but I'd like to do something that will help me in the future. Is renewable energy worth doing? Or smart homes?

Hopefully someone will have some good advice.

Cheers

Tom

Tom look around and you can see the world and how much everything is changing to automation, IT work. You will have to start small if you start your business but it will happen. Me personally would go into programming, who knows what it’s going to be like in 10 years. Good luck on whatever you choose to do.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I agree. Maybe the smart home route could be good. Automated lighting etc.

What sort of programming would be suited to electricians?

The best way to answer that is for you to call your local community college and they should have advisors to guide you in the right direction. Good luck.
