Hello, I have a 100 amp sub-panel in my garage that I would like to put a 60 or 70 amp breaker in and run that out to my shed about 175 feet away to another panel. My limited electrical understanding leads me to think that going such a long distance might cause excess heat from resistance? So...my question is what size wire do I need going that far that wouldn't over heat causing a fire. Is there a formula for this? Also, what size sub-panel can I use in my shed feeding off my 100 amp panel in the garage?

Thanks for you time and knowledge!

How are you my friend with a distance of 175 feet. Go with 60 amp because you pull probably will only pull half of that. As far as wire goes you need # 1 copper x 3 and one # 10 ground with an insulation of THHN which would require 11/2 PVC conduit
