It might be possible, you need to get an electrician on board early for a site visit.
They can then set out the different options available to you.

if it's all enclosed within a cupboard, it might comply, but even so, you have the possibility of water vapour damaging the equipment.

Hi guys and thanks for the responses. I have spoken to building control who say its ok as long as you can't reach the box from shower, bath, sink etc but I was wondering what the actual regulations were. My electrician wasn't 100% sure.

I might be thinking of involving a different electrician, one that is 100% sure!

Alternatively, give sparky a little time to check regs and get back to you.
If they can’t be sure when at the quote stage, I would not be employing them on “I’m sure they will figure it out as they are doing it” basis.

Agree with James, this needs to be correct, and agreed by all parties from the outset to avoid any awkward situations later.

Definitely DNO first. I doubt they will agree to it, certainly wouldn't around here. Scottish BC are as useless as England. I doubt they could get the time of day correct.

The DNO would have to be consulted as it's their equipment. It's not been unheard of in similar situations they have come in and have disconnected the supply, then charged a lot of money to move it and reconnect.

Agree. Your electrician should know this. There's an entire section in the regs for "Rooms containing a bath or shower"
It may be that he's not sure of the DNO regs concerning the main fuse and meter in that room.

It may mean a replan of the new bathroom, and maybe the electrics accessible from outside the room, and a solid wall between it and the bathroom.

The meter and fusebox at my parents' house sits in a cupboard in the downstairs shower room, and has done since 1985 when part of the garage was converted. You would expect a meter reader to have blown the whistle at some point over the years if it was a problem wouldn't you?

This is revisiting an old thread, and about time too.
I have seen, in Scotland, whole estates of new build houses where the CU is located high on the wall in the downstairs "cloakroom" or WC. These are small spaces, and the obvious way to gain access to the CU is to stand on the WC.
I don't care if BC allow it, I think it's just bad practice, as is, frankly, the whole idea of having a WC next to the front door, but that's a different matter, as is the relaxation to allow a WC off, say, a kitchen without an intervening air space.
Just build proper houses!
(Fat chance...)
