My question is what is this outlet for? Thank you!

It turns out to be a dryer outlet.

It's a 30A 125/250V non grounding dryer receptacle, used prior to the adoption of the 1996 NEC.

As @westward it is a 3 wire dryer receptacle. It even has a disconnect installed where the outlet is mounted. It doesn’t require a disconnect at the outlet because you unplug it which is considered your disconnect
