I used to offer discounts or do mates rates , basically end up working for minimum wage after fuel taken out

The organisation I work for now, is part of a very big organisation, if you follow me. Getting work done from quotes from companies is a friggin nightmare. Over a certain amount, the quote has to be vetted by several departments. Someone worked out, by the time of all the man hours spent on considering whether the quote was acceptable, then that cost more than the original quote in the first place.

Least it keeps them in a job.

Big organisations love wasting money , I have worked for companies which are experts at wasting money...

Midwest I work for a company very similar.

We have a budget for initial visit depending on the client.

If the job is important ie needing doing now it is passed through.

If its above the budget value it has to be quoted, you could spent 4 hours quoting job for it never to be done. But the time spent quoting is always billed.

Baffles me tbh.
