Hi,

I recently got internet enabled, however it turns out the cable isn't wired to the BT socket (socket looks very similar to this: http://www.rob-r.co.uk/other/UKphonecatwiring_files/image051.jpg). After opening the socket I just saw a bunch of unconnected wires.

My ISP's support told me everything looks fine from their side so it should just be a matter of wiring it correctly.

I've given it a shot but it doesn't work... (https://www.dropbox.com/s/5lg26jsjokw6srw/2013-08-31 13.36.24.jpg).

There's also something strange going on right outside my door where the cable originates (https://www.dropbox.com/s/c3n3vet6ywy35ap/2013-08-31 13.26.42 HDR.jpg). It looks like there's one properly wired cable going inside the apartment but another that is just sitting there, not connected to anything. I'm not sure which I actually get inside the house.

For your reference, here's the small box outside my door that connects the external phone cable to the internal cat5 cable: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pqq4ikybkwtmiff/2013-08-31 13.26.30 HDR.jpg

I think it's very obvious I'm completely inexperienced with this so any help would be appreciated! I really REALLY want internet!

looks like you confused telephone wiring with internet wiring. you wont get any internet straight from the phone line.
best idea will be approach one of those junction boxes with a voltage tester, see which pair of cables will have 40 or more volts on it, terminate them into a telephone socket.
into that socket you plug a telephone/adsl splitter, into adsl splitter you have to plug your adsl modem. and from there internet comes out on cat5 cabling...

Thanks for the reply.

I've solved the problem. I'm extremely embarrassed to say I was not using the primary phone socket, which was hidden behind some boxes.
