Discuss Wiring led floodlight from existing 2 cable security light? in the DIY Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi, I'm replacing my outdoor security light with a outdoor led flood light. My problem is there are 2 cables coming out the wall to my current security light and only 1 coming out the back of the new led flood light. I'm not great with wiring but don't really want to get a electrician in for just this. Can someone explain what I need to do??

I would save yourself a lot of time and effort by calling an electrician. None of us would want you to hurt yourself, or for your power to trip on Christmas morning.

If you tell us where about you are, there may be a forum member close by who can help.

Hi. I'm fairly diy savy and know my way around a fuse box not to get electrocuted. Replaced several lights and sockets etc. Don't worry I will get help elsewhere.

you have bought one of those prewired lights. you will need to get someone to fit external junction box. the two wires coming out of wall at a guess either is feed and switch or feed and continuation to another light.

Thanks. Yes one is the feed from the switch the other side of the wall. I can check which one. Do u have a diagram of how to wire the separate box to utilise the switch. I guess I might be able to check inside the current light with electric all turned off obviously.
