Hello all,
I've recently completed my City & Guilds Electrotechnical Technologies Level 2 & 3 and am currently looking for work experience.
I have been looking at applying for jobs as an Electricians Mate. On the advertised jobs it states that i would need to have an ECS/CSCS card. I have called up the ECS company and they say i am not eligable for an ECS card unless i have an electrical company to sponsor me, so i am wondering which CSCS card i would need to apply for.

I have read a few forum posts and one card which people have been suggesting is the 'Labourers CSCS Card' but i would like some clarification on this as i don't want to apply for the wrong card.

If anybody reading this post is able to offer me any work experience (Doesn't have to be paid) in and around the WATFORD/LONDON area please contact me.

Cheers, Ash.

as far as I know he will need company to sponsor his 'grade'. I did when I got mine, section of the form had to be filled out by a contracts manager. I got the 'improver' grade and had to supply evidence of being enrolled on a relevant course. Just waiting for my NVQ to come through now and I can reapply for my gold card but will need a company again to fill out the form saying I can have the electrician grade.

Spin, I just checked your link and it confirms my post. to get a trainee electrician grade the sponsor 'employer' must fill out the relevant section of the form. However, if our OP gets himself a bog standard cscs card, there is nothing stopping him from asking the company he might work for through an agency on site to do this if he is doing well.

I'm agency at the moment but well respected on site and I don't think there'll be a problem when I get my NVQ through in a few weeks for them to fill out my JIB form to get my gold card. And as i have passed NVQ 3 recently, I don't have to sit the ECS test again. Bonus.

According to Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) card | Installation Electrician card
I can apply for this card as i have all of the requirements, i do believe i need someone to sign saying i am compitent so i plan to just ask my college tutor to sign it, i think that should be enough, if not do you think i could just get a family member or friend to blag it and say i've worked with them for 2 years?, though i only think the 2 years experience is for grading
