Obviously a security measure having it wired into the light, there's probably a PIR around to turn that light on when you get out of your car to see why the door won't open ;)
 
Argh, but is that a light powering the garage door or.... when the garage door is operated the light turns on. Could be usefull if the Mrs is coming in, you can shut down those web sites she musn't see, mainly electricians Forum! Apparently I spend too much time looking at it! Blooming cheek..... do I mention how long she spends getting ready to go out!

No, you have to have the light on, to open the garage door :)
 
I worked in the states for three-years and the above is pretty much how they do everything, roughest tradesmen I've ever come across. Mind you it was in the deepest deep south, where inter breeding is pretty much standard :sixfingers:
