Discuss X-ray Machine Tripping RCD in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Looking at earlier posts it appears that strange tripping issues follow the OP around like his shadow which leaves me wondering about his skill level since every post so far is in some way connected to something tripping.

I tripped out once honest, to much iffy cake in Amsterdam, along with copious amounts of alcohol

Hello
X-ray machines should only generally be serviced by specialist companies, this machine sounds to me due to it's age to be well past it's service lifespan, the X-Ray generator tubes require a high DC voltage which is facilitated by an oil bathed transformer and rectifiers, in an old machine these will be mercury vapour tubes clamped to the transformer casing in the oil tank (voltage generally 50-55kv for these tubes and the x-ray generator tubes) and there will be large capacitors in there too ,this is an old burst type photo process machine (new modern machines use much lower power x-ray generator tubes, a directed beam and photo scintillation detector diodes to generate an image via Electronics and software)

The transformers deteriorate with age, the capacitors fail and dry out and off-gassing within the x-ray generator tubes causes them to eventually frost up with oxides and fail...the Berylium window can deteriorate and shatter emitting very poisonous heavy metal as a fine smoke like dust and damage caused by heat and age can cause safety shielding to deteriorate and fail...un trained repair work can lead to such events as the removal and non- replacement of safety shield material because it "got in the way" not to mention that electrical failure can lead to over supply to the x-ray generator that can penetrate the possible steel shielding used in supposedly low power machines as opposed to heavier lead..an old machine may not have shielding if retreat was the safety practice in years gone by, and SAFETY INTERLOCKS may well not exist or have failed....best for this machine to be put out of use.

Never attempt repair or service of any radiological equipment unless qualified and licenced to do so, radiation exposure can cause irreversible health damage and may lead to serious injury or even kill

treat all equipment like this with a high level of caution...

And on a lighter note, if you have an android mobile phone, you can get a working radiation detector app on google play that uses the CCD sensor chip in the camera, there are gimmick ones there too but one that definitely works, there are videos of it on youtube.

Have a great day :)
