O

Octopus

So the Conservatives lost, no story there and Labour just held on their safe seat.

Which is the more significant result?

Discuss!

Re: Yesterdays electiopn results!!

Did I over sleep, what election Murdoch? Is this Ongaland or UK as a whole? I though naughty Nige was going to be the next PM so we can all goose step into Europe?

UKIP didn't win. Douglas Carswell won, it was his record as an MP which swung it (despite the reality that he's done very little for his constituency)
Now before some people start crowing let's get it into perspective-
Conservative- 303
Labour- 257
Lib Dem- 56
D.U.P. 8
Scot Nat 6
Sinn Fein 5
Independent 3
Plaid Cymru 3
S.D.L.P. 3
Alliance 1
Green 1
Respect 1
Speaker 1
U.K.I.P. 1
Vacant 1
So where's this landslide shift in British politics?

Heywood was a different story UKIP vote not all ex tory voters , Labour had a 6000 majority in 2010 election , this time 600 odd they even had a recount it was that close.
One things sure its making politics a little more interesting.

According to the tories yesterday was a bad result for labour, well to be fair they were right in a way, the majority was 5000 less than before, the tories didn't do badly apparently, they didn't lose a seat?? so there we are, tories were the overall winners, labour the losers, and ukip were a protest vote--------again.

I think what he's saying is that people voted for the MP, Douglas Carswell, rather than voting for a political party. In this respect I feel the voting system is flawed - there might be a Labour (ach, spit) candidate who has a good vision of what's good for the local area, but I'd never want them back in power in Westminster so would be reluctant to vote for them in local elections.
As it happens the MP they voted for is now standing for UKIP, and his constituents feel happy for him to take them in that direction; if UKIP were really that awful I don't think they would have voted for him - I think if he'd defected to the national front of maybe the greens then as a candidate he'd have lost his seat.

I doubt it, the tories don't get any votes up in Jockland and they came second in one of those by elections, must be in the south east lol, ask Adam, Tel or tonto, they may know

mike, you do like spouting rubbish don't you.

these are the figures from the 2010 election in Scotland:

labour 42%, 41 seats
liberals 18.9%, 11 seats
snp 19.9%, 6 seats (no wonder Alec Salmonds had a chip on his shoulder!)
conservatives 16.7%, 1 seat
