Hi,

Passed my PAT test and have a new customer with 550 items to test. How do you guys go about testing everything? thinking back to my training they tell you you must test every socket on an extension lead and you must unscrew any plug that can be taken apart to check the fuse and the connections. I am hoping there are not to many plugs that require taking apart to check as surely this will add extra time to the job.

Any advice you can share is greatly appreciated.

I think most people just plug things in to the machine and look for a tick. But yes you should be opening the plug to check terminations are tight and correct fuse present. You also need to inspect the full length of the cable for damage, and also any appliences for damage, and check the cable is properly secured or glanded into the applience. And there are plenty more things I havent mentioned.

Only PA Test 110v equipment and hope they are not all fitted with Reyrolle plugs :D

If it was me and had a job for 550 units to test......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I would go off sick!

As shaun1 said, you have to do all those things and more if you are doing it correctly. even if you managed to test 1 item/minute that's a very long day's work...
and frankly, 1/minute is totally unrealistic, unless you just sticker everything, which is clearly wrong.

If possible, try to split the job over a few, non-consecutive days else you will indeed do what ipf said.
