Hi all
I will soon be changing my consumer unit as a job for my part p assessment. The feed at present to the garage is 2.5 swa cable with a 20 mcb, but has a outdoor socket in between so it feeds from cu to outdoor socket then on to the garage to another cu feeding radial sockets and lights. Is the fine in you opinion t leave as it is.

Regards
Dave

Maybe not ideal, but probably not worth changing. Inconvenience of faulty appliance/tool in socket tripping out garage supply.

Besides, there probably isn't any reliable discrimination between the protection on the garage circuits and the 20A protected supply to socket and garage.

You could raise it as a discussion point with him. They like it if it looks like you've thought about things in advance.

is there a rcd protecting the socket? you need one for garden sockets.

if there is one then fault in the garage/garden socket will trip half of the house.
change mcb into 20a rcbo, no need for rcd in the garage anymore. use a metal consumer unit in the garage to nicely terminate swa.
