There always seems to be a lot of people bashing those that complete a career change later in life by completing some short courses. Today I came across the cabling in the picture whilst completing a rewire and as you can see terrible standards have been around a while and can only presume this work work was completed by a time served god20180614_100241.jpg

You're dismissing the possible actions of the diyer and plumber here.....

Nobody will ever change my opinion that someone who does 4/5 years training will almost without fail be better than someone who does 4/5 weeks. Clearly over time the difference can be narrowed if the Electrical Trainee is someone willing to put the hours in to learn by themselves, however they shouldn't be let loose on jobs without having the proper guidance over a decent length of time - on site.
 
Of course it's a time severed electrician..

They don't have time to teach people how to wire lighting, joint box method in one of these 5 week courses !

Where was that, under the floor on the landing by any chance ?
