See this time after time - poor installation:
new split load board on a re-wire tt installation. The main switch is not a time delay rcd. The board is metal and there are split load single insulated conductors before the 30mA rcd's.
If these conductors touch the metal work the board may...
If you were to test a metal staircase on the side of the house on insulation resistance and it gave you a dead short. Would that need bonding. Test was done at the MET with all parallel paths disconnected. Staircase next to class 1 metal light fittings
Metal building with living quarters the panel is on the outside and about 20 feet away from new build that will be 2x6 what type of shielded wire do I need to run and will it need a junction box to convert it to romex? Would it be best to add a secondary panel inside of the new build I would...
Hi,
I do basic electrical DIY like changing light fittings and have got a light to put up that only has a fly earth and no flex earth (see pic).
I’ll be buying a junction box but just wondering why I’ve no flex earth?
Do I just use the fly in the junction box alone?
TIA
Hello everyone,
Following on from my previous post where I received advice on taking a spur off a 40a feed (thank you). I performed the work today, installing a surface fixed metal faceplate and back box. When terminating to create the spur (tight fit into terminals with both 6mm and 2.5mm!)...
I’ve been looking on eBay for a new tool box. My Stanley one has cracked. I’ve seen this. But I’m not sure about the depth of the draws for hand tools...
As above the chest level from ground ,metal ANPR housing has no connection to earth ,it has monitors modems and a camera inside with a 230 volt supply run from out totem pole lighting . Its on a 6 amp rcbo.
the ZS measures 1.93 ohms
cpc to metal case measures 158 ohms so its an extraneous...
I'm getting an old fuse board upgraded in an office block. The electrician has just told me that most of the circuits don't have earth cables coming directly from the fuse box.
I've taken a photo of one of the light switches. (attached to post)
1. It has the earth attached to the metal switch...
I have a nickel iron battery I have chosen to put into a shed with Ventilation added for the hydrogen off gassing. I am planning to run the dc from this battery over to the soffit then across an attic space and down into a hybrid inverter that will be in my garage. I am planning to run 4/0...
Hello
I’m going to install a hard wired 230v security camera, incorporating floodlights, outside and above garage door onto brick.
An exposed expanded metal lintel (that is hollow) runs across the garage door opening. Outside it has a decorative brick facing. The brick is not load bearing.
I...
UK here.
I've noticed the light switch in out kitchen gives a small tingle when you use it with bare feet.
I ran an extension from another socket in the house and found that that there is 240V between the switch and earth from the socket.
I tested resistance between the known good earth and...
Hi all!
Does an SPD have to go at the front end next to the main switch or can it be fitted with its MCB at the end of the row of MCBS on an existing CU to the far left?
EG main switch on the right, end of MCB row on the left will have the OCPD for the SPD, and then the SPD sat to the left of...
My customer is having a wood burner installed.
The stove installers have said he needs to get the 2 sockets that are directly behind the new stove position removed. They are approx 9-12" away (guess).
It would be a right pain and expensive for the customer to have the cable removed from the...
I have been asked to rewire an antique metal standard lamp. It has been rewired previously, but not earthed..! One of the screws on the base has a short length of uninsulated wire attached, presumably from the original earthing.
Unfortunately there is insufficient space to run an extra earth...
Hi, the new lights I have are metal and the earth connection doesn't connect to anything. I noticed the light that was there before someone had connected an earth to one of the bolts of the metal frame using a fork crimp. What would you do?
I am going to need to install a small amount of galvanised steel conduit, leading down to perhaps 4 sockets and a light switch. This is in a domestic premise. The customer wants the industrial type look and they want it looking very nice, they are happy to pay the price for this.
I have found 2...
Some friends are setting up a metal workshop inside a shipping container, on site at a commercial building that rents out studios, workshop space etc.
There is a 16mm SWA providing a three phase supply to a board inside the container, I looked and it’s connected inside the main building to a...
