Hello, I wonder if anyone could help.

We purchased an electric cooker to replace our gas cooker however no cable came with the purchase.

I’ve looked online and it seems I need to buy a 6mm T&E Cable to install it from the cooker block to the wall plate. We have the classic big red switch which has the cooker switch but also has an individual plug next to it.

Can I skip buying the 6mm T&E and just use a normal cable with a plug on the end and plug it into that switch?

It requires a 32A supply so you can’t run it from a plug and socket.
twin and earth is not the best cable to use as it is not heat resistant.

That was only to power the ignition module of the gas cooker, it's 0.75mm² and only rated at 6A. It will melt if you attempt to use it for the new cooker. 4mm² is the minimum, it's about 14mm in overall diameter and clearly larger than anything that would fit in a 13A plug. The link above is good and similar products are widely available so don't compromise.

Thank you for that information.

Could you possibly find me the cable above so I can purchase it from screwfix or tool station as that store is not near me and I can collect the correct cable today thanks.

You won't get that from the diy sheds.
