Hello I am wiring up a 100amp sub panel in my shop the run is about 230 feet so I was advised by the supply house to use 1/0 aluminum, I was told that the breakers at the main panel at the house would not accept the 1/0 aluminum, what would be the proper way to connect the wires I have seen like step down pins that could be used but not 100% sure if they would pass inspection thanks

If you are referring to 100 amps for the panel I would use four # 3 copper wires and install a main lug only sub panel. The wire will cost a little bit more but it’s half the size of copper. Remember that all buildings or shop in your case has to be GFCI protected
