I'll be over there later. The whole box is basically coming away from the wall. Ideally the wall will need re-done but I'm looking for a temporary fix just now just to get it good enough to throw some paint on. Thanks so much for the responses! It seems a bit small for a standard blanking plate. Would it work then if I put each wire into separate connector blocks, insulated both with electracal tape and then pushed back into the wall before sealing in the hole?- wuntyate

Ah! Thank you! Do you know how I would go around removing it? It's coming away from the wall anyway. Would I just turn the electricity off and cut the wires before taping them closed with electrical tape or is that just incredibly naive?- wuntyate

Just been directed here from someone I know for advice. Hoping you can help! I've just moved in to a new house and there's a strange socket on the wall I can't identify and don't know what to do with!
