It would seem that this forum is dying and stooping to new lows every day. Maybe its time to depart...

Discuss...

Its not been what it once was for quite a while now, even before the other place was formed. Still selling your would to Electrical Trainee courses hardly helps things.

well, some of the established members are at each others throats at times, and perhaps the mods should be on more, or dan should create more, I have to say it again though, I believe a DIY forum needs to be added like TEF have, this way those new members and posters will be helped by those who want to and the rest of the members can concentrate on questions from the other here, if the mods see a DIY post appearing they could move it to the new forum, JMO

I think its been disscussed to death mate. I started a rant yesterday about the abuse some people are dishing out. Some dont even give advice anymore, they just get abusive to the OP for asking a question, then abusive to the sparks that answer it. Some proper knobs on here at the min.

Trouble with the DIY forum, is that some on here will still go there just to abuse OP's and get there little kicks.

Well thats when the Mods need to do their duty, if there was a actual DIY forum, I wouldn't go on there, unless I felt I could help, at the moment it is all confusing on whos a DIYer and whos a spark without experience.

The mods need to step in and warn new posters at a MUCH earlier stage IMHO or there needs to be some form of "warning" system in place so that poster know who's on their way out and can avoid them.

If Dan does nothing I suspect this will decend to the depths of a DIY issues site.

It's certainly looking a bit sick. I would like to see the mods stamping down hard on new members throwing out personal insults to established members instead of coming up with a good technical response. (I've no problem with banter between established members who know that it's only meant in jest.)

Edit: As Murdoch says above. ^^^^^

To be fair sintra, high tower and Marvo do spend a lot of time here, but due to the size of the site perhaps more mods are required, I would like to nominate Telectrix, Murdoch and Spinlondon for potential mods, providing the DIY forum is added, now where is my fairy dust haha

Thanks but no thank unless its paid by the hour at a decent rate!

Well, I still quite like it, but then I've got very thick skin and live in my own little world.
Yes there are a few knobs, but that's true for life in general.
Having a DIY forum might work, I don't know.
Anyone know how the Apprentice forum is doing?
At the end of the day, if you don't like it here anymore, perhaps it would be better for you to leave.
From what I remember of TEF, there were more than a few knobs on there.
However I'd probably still be on if I hadn't of been banned.
I expect that the knobs on here will either get banned, or chill out.
I have looked for that other forum, but haven't been able to find it, probably to their relief.
In any event, I have no intention of buggering off just yet sorry.

At the end of the day it's all about traffic because traffic earns money something should have been done long ago,now it may be too late. Most of you know that I'm retired so loss of work doesn't affect me but, I can well understand lads getting hot under the collar about all the diy brigade who want to know how to do it themselves, beats me why they dont make the enquiries when they buy their gear.Another forum that I frequent has a good system whereby you start off in one room and access to other rooms is gained in stages as you gain more likes. This in my opinion would be the way to go as it would satisfy Dan's desire for more traffic and ensure only sensible posters get to the main forum.Look at the people who joined 2 or 3 years ago and only have a few posts, probably only come on for advice when the diy goes pear shaped. As regards just ignoring them well yes you can but when they start making attacks on the regular respected members then they must expect to be jumped on by the regulars, just as in real life you don't stand by while your friends are being attacked.

MDJ's shout of a DIY forum gets my backing, that will seperate the genuine "electrical talk" and the DIY...if people still go down for an absuing session (not me obviouslly) then like MDJ said, the mods can issue warnings / bans where appropriate.

The problem is this site is the first that comes up on google, so anyone wanting anything floods here. I prefer this site to others, not registered on others but have a look from time to time and just can't seem to get into them. I see spinlondon's post on other sites and have a gander what hes got to say but then i lose interest...yes spin YOU HAVE a stalker :laugh3:

I like it here though, can't see me leaving - unless someone comes in with a bid like in the premiership haha. Just out of interest when the other forum was made (think roughly when i officially joined this site) how many members left?

Still didn't quite work, I had to add .co.uk to the end before it came up.
I hope you don't get the blame.

Which forum is that Phil, and is it electrical in nature?

thats what i meant by invite only,we dont get the silly ones. You know where the name alsatian came from?During the war the germans were having a lot of trouble with the inhabitants of a town in france called alsace the people were known as alsatians and the germans said that they were so troublesome that 5 of them wasn,t worth one of their dogs,it has nothing to do with the old myth that the short coated variety were called alsatians and the long coated variety german shepherds.Another piece of useless info lol QI here I come

I heard it was started during the war, or just after, to get away from the word german.

Can see it now in 20 years time on EICRS people saying a rewrire is needed as MICC is installed and not allowed anymore lol
you can just see it some bloke on antiques roadshow with a bag of glands,"what are they and are they worth anything".

Would that matter to him??

Business is business my boy. :8:

Madness how such a decent forum can descend so quickly. I'm gonna try stick it out though, as i've said before i quite like the place. Hopefully things will improve.
