I had done this about 30 years ago, and, IIRC, it was a series of boxes, Romex coming in, and Romex coming out, one in, one out, each box, except for the lady box had one in and that’s it.

My wife wants me to add another box to an existing outlet in the basement, except it’s not the last outlet in the series. Two Romex wires there, one going in, one going out.

Can I safely add a box to this existing box, so 3 Romex wires coming in, pigtail all three together, and then attach a single black wire to the gold side, a single white wire to the silver side, same with the green ground.

Do I need to enlarge the box, if this is even possible? How do I determine overload?
