Are Quinetic still regarded as the best kinetic switches?

The real advantage of Quinetic is the wide range of products, they can compliment fixed wiring. I’ve used them for outside light, paired with addition key fobs on the car key ring. Owner comes home and can switch on the outside lights from their car.

Electrical Accidents that 'helped' change the wiring regulations?

Metal cable supports. Two firefighters died when trapped by fallen cables and in the Rule 43 letter issued under the Coroner’s Rules it was recommend and became a regulation.

    Ferrule crimping tool

Stranded cable should not be tightened under a screw, it damages the strands. The ferrule keeps the strands together and then the screw tightens onto the ferrule which stops the strands splaying, breaking or twisting.

Steel conduits acceptable for earthing in domestic property ?

Correct. My mistake, well spotted. I think I was getting to direction and went off at a tangent. With conduit we take the earth from the backbox with T&E we take an earth to it.

Steel conduits acceptable for earthing in domestic property ?

As stated previously this method is perfectly acceptable, I’ve worked on a couple (in bungalows for some reason). Be mindful that in my cases the conduit was joined in many places (no bends), these screwed connections and conduit buried in the wall can become loose or corrode quite badly -...

    Steel Conduit Bending Writen guide.

This is a great post and useful stuff in what is becoming a dying art. It is coming back as things often do. Appreciate the original diagrams too what a find.

Stick to TT or go PME?

Fantastic answer! Thanks @davesparks - I’m going to be looking at this moving forward. What I didn’t get was how WE can change the installation to PME, surely that needs to go through the DNO.

Stick to TT or go PME?

Only if the supply is PME

Stick to TT or go PME?

I think you have a point. The issue with PME is the open circuit PEN conductor - hence the requirement for a rod for PV, outbuilding, shed. So if someone gets fried it’s our responsibility not the DNO, why? Smart meters can shed the load by switching off the supply (volatile renewables?) like I...

Stick to TT or go PME?

How very bizarre. Not seen that in my neck of the woods, some changing of PME back to TT for EV charging. The world is changing.

Stick to TT or go PME?

Exactly. RCBO’s are the ways to go right now and not just TT - split load boards (for example) belong in the 80’s.

Stick to TT or go PME?

Why would you use 100mA RCD if you have 30mA RCBO’s in the CU.

    2 odd spanners as promised

I had this conversation recently - if the adjustable spanner length is in inches - then it’s imperial ;)
