    EICR needed in Reading

Doesn't need to be right now - within a month would be OK. I have tenants at the house, but they are really friendly and helpful.

    EICR needed in Reading

I need an EICR done on a house I rent out in Reading, England - 4-bed detached built in early 1980s. Would ideally like someone from this forum. Last EICR was in March 2019 following which esteemed forum member Wilko put in a new DB, did various fault finding, earth upgrades and everything else...

    Avoiding EICR cowboys

Phew! After all that I need to go back to my original post: I need an EICR done on a house I rent out in Reading, England - 4-bed detached built in early 1980s. But I'm a bit nervous about how to avoid cowboys...so would ideally like someone from this forum. Last EICR was in March 2019...

    Bathroom wiring for elec toothbrush

Yes, I have MK sockets and switches left over from building my house. I'm more comfortable with fused plugs and they are better constructed than some of the local Schuko plugs. It's a one-time change for all the appliances. I don't see any big advantage to flex conduit and singles, it's not as...

    Bathroom wiring for elec toothbrush

Definitely not recommended! Multi-strand cables, usually singles in a plastic pipe, often no earth, wires twisted together and wrapped with tape, usually only MCBs and lots of them, radial circuits...the list goes on. For the guys doing the plastering, I put a small surface-mount DB with plug...

    Bathroom wiring for elec toothbrush

I'm about to do wiring for a small apartment in Azerbaijan. Mostly I will try to use UK standards - ring mains with ELCBs, everywhere earthed, T&E cable etc. I have a question for the bathroom - how do you safely put an outlet to power an electric toothbrush charger, fairly close to the hand...

How important is it that I upgrade this consumer unit, and maybe, more?

Since the test was done on 18 October 2022 it must have been done during your negotiations, prior to exchange of contracts. Ask your solicitor to request the test report from the vendor. Actually it should probably have been disclosed anyway. If you are lucky it will be an EICR done by a...

Is Voltage the Resonance of Electrons?

You might be better asking this in a post-grad physics forum but this might help: https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-current-resonance-and-voltage-resonance Just waiting for Lucien to appear...

Cable missing in central heating wiring

On balance the wireless link is probably the neatest option. Moving the pump takes it from a cupboard to a usable store room so is marginally less suitable, though technically sound. But at least I have two viable solutions. The system is already run through Hive. But moving that upstairs puts...

Cable missing in central heating wiring

The Mainslink is exactly the solution that was described to me and I thought I was looking for. But relocating the pump also seems to be a simple and elegant solution. Thanks guys

Cable missing in central heating wiring

The pump is near the valves - so 5 cores needed

Cable missing in central heating wiring

With a permanent live at both ends but nothing in between for the 5th core, I'm hoping there's a way to use a wireless device to provide the connection. It's a bit of a lash-up but may be possible these days.
