Can I fit my own consumer unit

Google says that North Walney is in the Lake District? Have we moved the wall :)

    New van

@ferg what have you decided on? I wish I'd had machine guns fitted to remove all these 'ecking tourists out of my way. Its like we're under invasion at the moment!

24 module DB to include 16 MCBs

Why would you want to hang that many MCBs off of 2 RCDs? It's just asking for trouble now or in the future. Why not just ask your wholesalers to sort it out - thats what I would do. Tell them the space dimensions you have for the CU and your desired layout?

    SECTT test

It is a pass or fail (as far as I recall) but you can resit it.

    surge protection for heating system

Not sure that there is a DIY solution. Either a new CU with SPD built in or a stand alone SPD before the existing board. Also modern protective devices found in a consumer unit will behave with a different character to you Hager cartridge fuses and give better protection to you household circuits..

Using an EU PAT testing device

I have the PAT 410 and it has a standard UK socket fitted and all leads are for the UK. Is the image you are looking at generic or just wrong? Its a great bit of kit but it is very heavy.

    SECTT test

There used to be example questions online. Try the SELECT website or ring them. Having gone through it with my last apprentice it is timed and you need to answer as many questions as you can. Try not to linger on each one as you’ll run out of time. He failed first time around purely because of...

UK Inverter over grid voltage fault

We had a similar call out and the issue was with the grid (which they admitted). Voltage was too high.

Distance between meter and cut out

Isn't it the case you get paid FIT on the basis of what the panels produce and then if you do not have a smart meter it is assumed that 50% of that goes to the grid (and you use 50%) and you get that payment also. Thats how mine works.

Moving cables and sockets/switches over insulation

Maybe…. 1 too little information provided. 2. Members don’t have to respond. Just saying 🤷

Battery Self install of battery storage

Up in the north SiS meter people told me last week that they have less than 18 months of non smart meters left. After that people won’t get a choice - it will be a smart meter or nothing. You can have a second PV system and a battery. We did. Puredrive system with 3 PV systems and 3 inverters...

Battery Self install of battery storage

I dont think it will affect your FIT. Dont tell them (although you are supposed to do so). You'll theoretically just be putting less back to FIT if its going into battery storage but they'll never know. Battery, not inverter

    Awful! Even for DIY...............

Ouch. Danger notice to customer in my book.

Battery Self install of battery storage

Our experience of fitting batteries is that anything less than 10kW is not worthwhile and really 20kW is preferable.

Why are the lights not working!!!!!

Not a smoker either but a short pause for a cry in the van often helps!

Battery Self install of battery storage

First up DON'T believe anything a wholesaler advises - they are not experts but salespeople and the YESSS terms and conditions if you have a credit account are very biassed against you. They're all on bonuses to sell you rubbish. I cant see the detail of the offer but just add a battery. We can't...
