Cheers Avo, I had seen that post but it makes no difference what position the switched are in.
I just figured that as it was a few years ago someone else may have experienced the same problem
Picked up a 2nd hand megger mft1721 yesterday after my tools got stolen from my van and needed one in a hurry 😡
Seemed ok when I picked it up, checked it and did a few basic tests all ok.
Today it’s showing err76 and shuts down after a few seconds.
I’ve tried changing the batteries and...
It really is quite straightforward, if you want to sign you own work off and register with a scheme provider, then pick up the phone and ask THEM what qualifications they require.
As for pricing, you know what you need/want to earn per day. Work out how long each job will take, add materials...
There is a decent van stock, as a spark it's not really monitored that closely, but you have to use common sense ie someone is going to notice if you are ordering loads of tools or materials with no real reason.
I do quite a bit of install work, but then I know people who never do any and always...
Yep I work for them, have done for 7 years, regularly go into old people's houses scaring them into getting work done that is not necessary, who cares, we get a commission and you've got to look after number one........
At least that is what a lot of people on this forum think we are like, I've...
I'm finishing off a job today which I started a few weeks ago.
When I was last there the customer asked what to do about payment, I told him not to worry and that I'd bill him when I'd finished the work.
He said 'no no no, here you are', and gave me £200 to be on with!
I still love it.
Predominantly do domestic, have always been employed but set up my own little business just over a year ago to try and go it alone (am still employed too but gotta build it up slowly!)
Seem to be picking up quite a lot of work now. I take pride in my work and think it's paying...
I maybe didn't make myself quite clear, I wasn't talking about using a power tool for literally everything!
But having suffered from RSI in my forearm (and yes, I have heard all the jokes), then I don't put undue strain on it where there is a suitable alternative!
Sometimes you've just got to embrace modern technology.
You won't catch me using a traditional screwdriver where a power tool will do the same job.
Sure hacksaws and knives do a great job, but is someone releases a reliable, effective and time saving alternative I'm all for it!!!
I bought a Metrel off eBay 3 years ago. The chap selling it was straight as a die. £80 for the meter at the end of auction, £40 to have it calibrated, jobs a good un!
Maybe I was lucky, but there are bargains to be had.
Ha ha ha, just read it back and it sounds worse than I intended it to!
I love my mum dearly, but if I remember correctly I was busy with the family, and bearing in mind I had sacrificed the several weekends previous in order to carry out said rewiring, wasn't going to cut my day out short (she...
Yeah, my Mum!
Rewired her house a few years back (material cost only) and when one of her 1980's oven elements started tripping the RCD she was straight on the phone, shouting and balling like I was still 5, with the typical 'we'll it worked ok before' response. She wanted me to go over and sort...
I never tie the cables together.
If I'm doing a board change then dead testing gets done before the old un is even off the wall.
If it's a new install I usually test before the cables are dressed in as I find it easier!
