I know the rules, I know that we should not talk about other members in the Arms but this is something I feel strongly about. There are some great members on here that I believe should be Arms members. I said this about millwallken and Malcolm. Can I recommend to admin that you invite a few members if we give you the names? My first nomination would be Spinlondon, he has always given brilliant advice and help. Not a single post of his has given bad advice and this chap knows what he is on about. I haven't spoken to him or even a pm, I've only looked at his posts same as the rest of us and I think he needs his name in red letters. I know that I will be told that members need to pm the admin to ask for Arms membership but can we not put forward a nomination for membership? I've only chosen Spinlondon due to his great posts, has anyone else got a nomination?

It's not down to us on who gets in or not but let's face it, people like spin puts me to shame on his knowledge. (take the mick out of me if you want lads, I've got broad shoulders :)) We all know how to get into the Arms and I say again that its not up to us who gets in or not but some times it stares us in the face.

I nominate I=p/u for his intellectual and original posts, i think he would be a valued member of the arms

PMSL :):). Arms member in the plumbers forum so he can ask about fixing a 8mm hole in a soil pipe that he's just drilled LOL. Bless him, he's just really eager to get on with it although he has just passed his level 2. And it seems that he's getting more work in than me atm! Think that we should help him out all we can, he needs it and he will become a good spark some day. I may show a bit more patients with him.

If members want access then they will ask..? cannot give access just like that gents..:):)
Dave we all know but with the ever expanding forum with some great members coming through, can we keep this thread open so we can nominate a few people and we can then send them a PM telling them to request membership? Is that ok?

When the arms was created I didn't think membership criteria was particularly fair because I wasn't a sole trader one man band then and I'm still not, but I didn't ask because I accepted the rules.
It still seems wrong that there are members who I have thought should have been arms members long ago who have only just gained entry the same way I did (by contributing over a long period of time) while newer members can gain access almost immediately due to their employment status.

So what's the alternative? PM mods with a scan of certificates or JIB card?
Personally I'm happy to accept the mods' decision, as I was when I joined the forum.

Novus please don't mention JIB, you'll only get electricalserv and millwallken at each others throats.

I know the JIB argument has been done to death but the way I see it it's the only form of 'electricians' card' we currently have, and whether certain members like it or not it's an indication of an electrician's qualifications.
I don't have a gold card, but I accept the reason why and I'm not going to start bitching about why I can't do the 2356 right now.

Going off topic a little bit but, we are all shouting about schemes, DI's, cowboys etc but if we all had a card to prove our qualifications and experience within the current rules and regs. This can be done with jib if they adapted their company. What is it? £35 for 3 years! At least they have an organisation set up to take on such a development. I'm not pro jib BTW.
