Looks like a DIY chancer.

Yes it has all gone mental of late, the colleges must have closed down for the Christmas period, or the DIYers are off work, it may calm down from Monday next week.

Reading his previous posts it does seem he is a have a go hero

I do feel at times that some of the advice given on here goes a bit too far in depth and detail than is probably sensible given that all the requests posted lack a lot of detail and could put the safety of the poster and anyone else at their property at risk

And there lies the problem don't give out advice and you are elitise give out advice and you could be held liable that's why I have withdrawn from giving any when I see chancer Joe having a go

As i said to someone the only way to get away from the diy brigade is the ARMS but not all the good lads are arms members, maybe everybody should have to start in a newbie lounge and then get more access if they receive a certain number of likes on their posts, that way we could have some control over what goes on because at the moment I am struggling to keep my tongue with some of the crap that gets posted.

I often post "biting my lip" to stop me getting a ban!

My two-penneth worth, for what it's worth (about 2p). Either give out advice if you want to (which may and perhaps should amount to nothing more than 'contact an electrician'), or say nothing. The increase in petty sniping on here recently is not doing anyone any favours. In all walks of life, except brain surgery and perhaps Morris dancing, some people will be tempted to have a go themselves. It's not a new phenomenon, it's not restricted to electrics and it's not likely to end. Accept the fact and help if you want to. Or don't. No need for nastiness IMO, no matter how much of a bell end the original poster appears to be.

This forum lost alot of face when it started advertising the Electrical Trainee courses.

Yes the forum needs money to be run, but when that happened it just seemed to get out of control the amount of posters asking simple questions. If they were someone doing a electrical course and looking at getting some advice thats fine, but some people just have the attitude
how hard can it be[/B], well if you are asking and don't know obviously not that simple eh?

Now if they were to listen and say OK I will get somone in a learn from them when they do it all well and good, but they don't.

Can't see any reason why a DIY forum cannot be added, any DIYers posting elsewhere could have their posts moved by the mods into it, this way anyone not wanting to help them can avoid that forum and concentrate on helping apprentices and sparks with genuine issues, One fly in the ointment will be ensuring there are Mods around more often to shift DIY threads away from the other forums.

Julian I hate to say it you need to get that chip off your shoulder don't get me wrong this forum is great for bouncing ideas of each other and getting their understanding of the regs because lets face it as 4 Schemies a question and get 4 different answers and as I have said before I don't have an ego to bruise I am happy to help with advice (see alarm section) but in my view there has become a feeding frenzy on this forum with what i see as chancer Joes and guys who should know better. No doubt it has been noticed that I am not been replying to a lot of posts recently so does that make me elitise well I don't think so but I am getting fed up with the dumbing down of our trade by people who are not committed or to put it plainly are too damn lazy and think this world owes them a living .

Yet again this discussion has raised its head yep we need a novice lounge but also need to get guys who are in the trade to be more professional ie instead of posts like Zs = ?? why is the RCD tripping questions and more like Ze=?? Zs=?? PFC=?? IR=?? and here is a pic of the CU set up as well by doing this they will learn more if not then its the what I call the Google society who cares about learning some idiot will give me the answer.

And I suspect that the short course providers are suggesting that THEIR students come to this forum to fill in the gaps in their knowledge.....

Yep well said that man here is a crash course and then go to EF for these idiots to do our job for us . Yep yes indeed this forum lost its way BIG TIME as we should be pushing for higher standards instead of seeing our trade be devalued

I often go to a quieter, more sensible place! Maybe my 2013 resolution should be to leave here!

As said the one on your shoulder

Sorry, I'm a bit thick. Please spell it out to me.

All I said was either help these posters or don't, there's no need for the outright nastiness that is directed at some. It's a public forum that is free for anyone to sign up to. As such, people will be popping on here to ask the mundane, the obvious or the downright stupid. Some may well be chancers, some will be DIY'ers, some will be Electrical Trainee, some will be simply people who don't know any better. The unfortunate tendency here is to assume the former and lay into them. Unpleasant. I fully understand time served sparks wanting a place where time served sparks can all ask far more interesting questions of each other, but this place it would appear is not it.

And what chip exactly is that?
I think my friend that he was referring to some of the wording in your original post, too many times we tell someone to get a spark in and yet they carry on asking the same question over and over which gets a bit frustrating for everyone. Then if you give them the advice and they get hurt of worse still hurt someone else then its us that gets the grief, its very annoying when a forum is being dragged down by joe public who want free advice when they are clearly out of their depth.I for one would like a go at surgery but do you think anyone would give me the heads up if I posted a request on a doctors forum NO they would not as its out of my scope, same here electrics are dangerous and when someone tells you to get a spark in you should get one in and not keep asking the same question.e.g there was one a few weeks ago from a supposedly qualified spark asking how to wire an immersion heater!

Things are bad here, even we sparks are at each other now, amazing what a decline in the Industry can do to all involved, sigh, we were the cream of the Milk once, now were just the last of "the way it once was".
