Morning men.

I have a problem ... I have a dead short on a 25mm SWA somewhere along a 90meter stretch of land. Problem is it's a dreaded caravan park, so can't trace the entire run - caravan concrete pads are littered everywhere. The owner of the park has taken over from his elderly dad, and his dad seems to remember joints been put in over 20years ago but can't remember where. My guess is one of these has failed.

I can't use anything surface to try and track the route of the cable as it's not physically possible - so using equipment that will tell me how many meters down the line the fault actually is, is kinda of pointless?

Any ideas other than 'sling' (to put it lightly) a new 25mm SWA ?

TBH, it's probably more economical to ditch existing and lay a new cable. you coulkd spend 3 days faffing about trying to locate the fault.

When you say dead short - is that L-N ? If so Ouch!

I'm afraid so mate. I've done them before on bigger caravan parks, the layout tends to be mapped and it's quite often the old pot joints that go L-N. On bigger sites they're easy to find, as the cable's are laid from various distribution boxes around the park. This happens to be on a small site of 110 caravans, and its the shower block thats gone down - just not sure how to trace it properly.

As tel said, probably gonna have to lay a new cable but it won't be cheap. Typical its winter as well, do i put a new fleece and thermals in the cost lol.

Have you measured resistance on it? If you know the cable route you may be able to wheel it out to an aproximate area?
