If it's too good to be true...

I believe so too BUT items such as these have to built to conform right?

Has anyone used these or the supplier?

PS Daren't put it in the public forum, prices are hard enough to compete with as it is ;)

:thumbsup

it seems to cheap, also they have there own company logo stamped on them which seems a bit flash for a local wholesaler, probably a deal done with some far east manufacturer,if you can make a profit on a 79p mcb,it doesnt say quality

From the unprofessional cheep looking layout of the website, I would guess it's a scam.

I agree that the prices are far too cheap and it could well be a scam?

I've just found some more details on the company

Cardiff is only across the bridge from Bristol so it may be worth a visit?

This firm has been going since 1948 and revived in 1999. Any body in the Cardiff ever heard of them?

I wouldn't buy from that site unless I had some one else's debit card.

Seems genuine enough...

As someone has pointed out, they've probably got an Asian supplier and added their own logos.

Just about all rcbos and mcbs are likely made by the same Chinese firms
I would expect these rcbos to be as good or bad as any of the 25 pounders we get at the larger suppliers

i wouldnt, regardless of where there made id imagine the likes of mk/wylex or any other big name will have a heavy involvment in quality checks and to make sure standards are met,a local wholesaler will not, plenty of fake everything around these days

Until I worked in a caravan factory I didn't know there was such a thing as a 'caravan light fitting'. The company would get hold of 'standard' fittings (decorative halogen, downlighter, outdoor etc) from the likes of B&Q which would look good in a caravan...
... Then they sent them to a factory in China to copy, but produce much cheaper. The product looks the same, but is unbranded or has a different, unknown brand, and obviously uses cheaper materials and has an inferior build quality.

If these MCBs etc hold a British Standard number and are on sale in the UK you should be able to assume they're 'fit for purpose', but like anything you get what you pay for - I wouldn't expect them to last as long as the likes of Wylex or Crabtree, but we have all come across customers who seem to care more about price than quality.

At the end of they day that wholesaler has done what thousands of business' do every year, they have gone to the far east trade shows to find a supplier, maybe this is part of their 'revival' if it all goes pete tong they will loose out, all these chinese suppliers manufacture and supply after a proforma has been received.
Having been to these trade shows, I have seen first hand the serious poor quality cheap rubbish out there.
Maybe they receive evidence of batch testing or test reports?
One thing for sure, they seem far too cheap to me, as a critical safety item, I for one shall not be trying them.

I don't think I'd consider this company an 'electrical wholesaler' - they seem more like someone who has bought a job lot of breakers, CUs, and DIN rail mounted stuff, and are breaking it down to sell cheap, like some kind task on 'The Apprentice'.
Not a bad idea really, i was considering doing something similar to earn a bit of extra pocket money (although not with electrical stuff).

I want to be able to have faith in the products I install, and have a local supplier I can visit to collect stock from, On this basis, I won't be trying out this cheap tat in the short term!

I can't comment on the quality of the items but the thing that gets me is if they're wholesaling at 79p in the UK they must be leaving the factory gates in China at less than a quarter of that price before shipping, import duties, resale profit and VAT is added. I ask you with tears in my eyes how the hell can it be possible to manufacture an RCBO and make profit at around 20p per unit?

i think your right, their product line is a bit short on choice, but when it goes wrong they walk away, might be wrong but..

And then along came Wylex mcbs :smiley2: and contactum and crabtree and a few others who were on the list
They buy the cheap rubbish and rebrand
tenby was a brilliant product, they were one of the first to move lock stock and barrel to Turkey, cheap labour
What happened Tenby became rubbish
MK was brilliant, where are their mcbs rcbos etc made ?

I think there's a big difference between re-branding a generic Chinese production item and setting up to manufacture in China under license. These RCBO's are obviously just re-branded whereas a lot of the larger brand names my be manufacturing their own products under license in China and may still end up with a high quality item.

Another consideration you UK guys may have is that if you commit to a certain CU then isn't it in your regs that the same brand MCB's /RCBO's must be used for replacements or additions?

You are probably right with what you say, however, quality wasn't their motive either when they outsourced once great products to these places
