Fantastic :)
SBO you've raised another good point - tools are only a target because some folks think it's ok to buy and use stolen goods. I reckon most of the stuff offered about has been nicked, with very few from genuinely retired Sparks clearing out their sheds. For the avoidance of doubt, if anyone is offered Wilko tools they've been nicked, as they're all coming with me to the next life !

There is no justification for killing a thief caught in the act, albeit reasonable force may be used...the trouble, as many more eloquent on here have said, is that the thieves rarely get the sentences they deserve, but that is the fault of the system and the inadequate provision of prison places. If we had limitless space for offenders we could lock them up...but prison life itself is not seen as a deterent by many serial offenders because the regime in prison is not harsh enough. Exporting prisoners to, say, India, so outsourcing the problem is an interesting theme though...
It matters not what we think, the law has rules. Yes, of course you feel violated if a scumbag robs your house, your tools, but that is life.If a driver kills your child, that is the worst tragedy imaginable...does it make it any worse if that driver was drunk, or merely careless...eg on his mobile at the time? What if he was sober, driving carefully, and unfortunately the child just ran out in front of him? Either way, you have lost a child, he or she has killed, unintentionally.
The previous post about the barrister is in point here. He's just doing a job, and trying to get the best result for his client, subject to not knowing his client is guilty, of course.
My point is this...we all may suffer a loss from folks stealing from us, be it tools, money or lives..and we may all feel deep down that if the perpetrator dies we don't care (or couldn't care less) but equally we mustn't promulgate the idea that it's ok to wish these thieves dead. Hate them, yes, wish they were dead? Maybe, inside...but to promote the idea that it is better for them to die, because they are "scumbags" is against the rule of law...and one day, in our own lives, inadvertently, we may cause such suffering...and we would not wish to be seen as such lowlife that our death is a preferred result.
On a practical level, tools cost money...but the protection of them should not cost lives. It costs in insurance premiums, but I am not going into that arena! Some say insurers are scumbags, as are some bankers...many victims of both have been made penniless, and none has gone to jail. If you are a victim of tool theft (getting back to the original point) and you are not insured, well that is a true bu**er, for sure, but while it may make it very difficult to earn a living and support your family, you can at least try again...which you can't do if incarcerated...or dead.

Whilst I have no sympathy for people who steal tools off hard working tradesman, do we know for sure that he did this crime and the others ? or is it just circumstancial ? This is why we have courts, i think.

I think the exporting bit is a bit daft to be honest. As has been said these scrotes have next of kin, wives, children (unfortunately), who have not committed a crime and need access to them. Bit tricky if they are in India!

There was nothing creative about that post, the offenders centre has a policy that none of the offenders are to be subject to abuse from the guards no matter what the circumstances. He struck one blow that was all. He was unfortunate that another policy of two guards when dealing with offenders was over looked by the powers that be due to staffing problems and he suffered the consequences.
So he was attacked because management failed in its duty of care to its employees, he can turn the case around and screw them over as it is employees fault that he was attacked.

Over the years I have been "offered" used tools at a discount by some dodgy sorts, never touch them as you don't buy stolen tools.

Any thief, burglar are scum in my eyes and if they die then its one less piece of scum on this earth.

As mentioned previously the liberal left in this country are a joke and any punishment should really be a punishment and the UK should have a system of 3 strikes and you go in for life and no as you sometimes here of a defendant who has 43 previous convictions.

This incident occurred just over a mile where I live and locally we do get some vehicle thefts usually indicated by the police helicopter being overhead. I know of a few incidents where the would be thieves have been chased but never caught

Before anyone accuses me of being a Guardian reading hand wringer....I read the Daily Rant, and it makes my blood boil that law abiding people have to put up with scum like van thieves. But no matter how tempting, vigilante squads are not the answer. There is a noble and long standing principle of innocent until proven guilty, and the right to a fair trial in this country. Without that mob rule and gross injustices will prevail.
This kind of thing is an angry reaction, but that does not mean it's right.

Given the current effectiveness of the police it makes vigilante groups all the more likely.
With regard to innocent until proven guilty tell the media that one they killed that off years ago

I actually read something by a barrister the other day about defending guilty clients, it was really eye-opening. He said that unless the defendant confesses guilt to them, they have to try to prove them innocent, which absolutely makes sense. If they do confess to their defending team then they aren't allowed to mislead the jury or court regarding that.

He went on to say that their opinion or thoughts on the defendants guilt is totally irrelevant, and it's the job of the jury to decide, but that to maintain professional integrity they had to do the absolute best job to defend their client as is possible. This obviously makes it harder to convict guilty parties, but it's designed to ensure the least amount of innocent people end up wrongly convicted due to lax questioning, etc.

Having had an attempted vehicle break in years ago both suspects seen leaving the scene were apprehended by a single police officer during the arrest one escaped and the police chose not to pursue him, the other one ended up in court ably supported by a very capable brief who ran rings around the CPS lawyer all on legal aid yes he got off with it by blaming the one who escaped arrest about six months later I found out both had been sent down for a couple of years after being caught thieving again

My nieces boyfriend has two jobs, part time fire fighter and a guard in a youth offenders centre. He is a good lad who always tries to do his best. Last year three of these offenders decided to set about him which laid him off work for a month. He was told that when he returns to work he would be the subject of an enquiry and possible disciplinary action why, one of said offenders made a complaint that he was assaulted when this lad hit him in an attempt to protect himself.
So no I have zero sympathy with any of them dead or alive.

That is the problem with prisons they have been turned into holiday camps by the human rights act

Innocent until proven guilty is an often used phrase but what about the PUNISHMENT fitting the crime

I wonder what the cost is per hour to run a Police helicopter in the air, also no letting out scrotes out early for good behaviour as the only reason there are in prison is because of their bad behaviour.

I think these days the police are more interested in putting their resources in finding people on twitter who dont agree with someone's else's narrative & arrest them for hate crimes or of course the men of the police walking down the street in high heels & painting their toe nails.

Some poor bugger being burgled sorry sir not a lot we can do...

Or..

Someone just said something hatred towards me ok sir we'll deal with this straight away...

My little example of this concerns a bad man with guns who Police will not visit or confront because "it would be dangerous". I can't say any more ...

Its a game you just need to play it better, an anonymous letter to your MP explaining your fears a phone call to the anti terrorist hot line letting them know he's selling weapons on the black market, there are ways to turn things around.

The vital part of it is that it is made absolutely clear to potential criminals what the consequences will be, including doing a fixed stretch in India. Under the present system they do not know what the consequences will be so they are prepared to chance it. They have a choice, if they still choose criminality they can hardly complain when their loved ones cant see them. I don't give a flying f### and neither should you, they made that choice fully aware of the consequences.
