Anyone else finding it difficult to get a big order from their wholesalers lately??

Seems they're cutting the credit limits of all customers to try and protect themselves against firms going belly up and owing them thousands.

I know for a fact that CEF got taken for £300,000 just last week so now they are hardly letting any stock out on credit apart from the normal gear.

Another wholesaler of mine, LH Evans have also cut the credit limits of their customers. Times are difficult enough as it is but not being able to get kit is making it a hundred times worse.

It's only neweys that are still going, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be able to carry on with the job I'm on now as it's non stock gear for them but they are happy to get it in for me, 450mm heavy duty tray associated bits & bobs like unistrut etc.

Have even been to plumbers merchants such as BSS for unistrut.

I use an Indie and it's difficult getting anything out of the ordinary.

But then again I am normally only doing domestic.

Won't use CEF as they stitched me up too many times so I'm sort of glad they were tucked up in return. Denmans and Edmonsons seem ok.

never has any problems with Bemco, if its out of the ordinary they normally get t next day, they got hit for 400k+ last year at the Durham branch, and the manager was duly sacked....

as matter of fact my credit terms have jumped by 3k in last 2 months!

Have not had problems with orders yet but most of them are carrying less stock so having to order more stuff now and booking the job in later rather than picking it up and doing it now.

In fairness to the wholesalers (whoever they may be) they can only sell to us when we're buying...we go quiet, they go quiet. Only unlike them, I don't have a vast empire of full time staff, vans and buildings to pay for regardless. Add to that several million quids worth of stock sat on shelves waiting for Mrs Jones' quote to actually get ordered and you can see why they get jumpy. I try and support my local independants as much as practical, but half the time they just don't carry the stock or it's all aimed at low-scale commercial and domestic.

BUT, on the plus side, I was in electrifix earlier to collect something and also wanted an angled downlight (the 45deg style ones)....nope, no chance. So I said to the lad 'that's all right, I'll get one from a proper wholesalers'. He didn't argue though his face said it all!

Just had my credit limit increased at Electricfix!! They must be desperate to rely on me.
