How do you think this latest amendment will effect you in your working life and in particular what do you think is a positive change and what do you think is a negative change?

If if there is anything we are struggling to understand let's put our heads together to try and work it out.

im waiting to see what they say about boards now

I'm currently eating a sausage sandwich. It's got a little brown sauce in it and a healthy dose of black pepper. I'm really enjoying it, in fact, what will wash it down beautifully is a bottle of Harveys pale ale! I'm gonna open one up I think.

Owt good on telly tonight?

Dads Army, coming to a telly near you soon.:smile5:

The third amendment will mean me throwing more money down the drain to buy some slightly altered books in an unattractively coloured cover.
It will probably also mean reading through a load of tripe on this forum from people who could probably creatively misunderstand and missread a 'no smoking' sign.

just wondering what regulation will come in regarding humane control of rats, mice, and squirrels. are we to allow them to be electrocuted when chewing cables or should we wire everything in SWA and MICC, providing them with alternative edible components, like switches made of cheese?

I think you have misunderstood the use of the term 'inedible' which was used in the draft, they have since replaced this with the far more straightforward 'not readily edible' which should clear matters up nicely.

If I'm brutally honest, I couldn't care less about it at the minute. I'll buy it, obviously, and read through the sections that affect me as and when they do.
I'll put them into action as required.
same as I've done with any other amendment/new edition since I qualified.

its going to cost me time and money for changes that are not necessary at this time. It's nothing more than a money making exercise by the iet and the schemes

Wrapping the cables in cabbage should do the trick then.....

Ah yes , that would be the 'enclosed in not readily edible material' method. I believe this is also acceptable.
The key point is that you must not at any time consider attempting to prevent rats from eating cables by preventing them from getting in to the house in the first place!
We don't want to go curing the problem, just treat the symptoms and carry on

you blasphemer. comparing life of brian to the ficticious utterings of the iet. wash your mouth out with carbolic and prepare to be stoned.

Metal fixings in communal areas of flats required. No more plastic cable tie bases. Other than full on containment, basket/tray what are the options?

Communal areas aren't usually wired in conduit. Need a metal type cable hanger. Something quick, easy and cheap and able to pull plenty of cables through. Like the old cable tie base.

I'm tempted to add something quite outrageously sarcastic here, but can't quite compete with the leg ends on here. UKESRail, you've asked a reasonable question here. But I fear you won't get any reasonable answers. More tea vicar.

For me the new rules on transportable units will be interesting. Not much detail on this out there yet but it looks as if all these must be TT earthed if the primary supply is a PME. Mh underdranding was that before this was jusg a DNO specification but now is in BS7671.

Also RCD protection will now be required for sockets upto 20 amps so 16A commando points will be included.

4th amendment, 18th edition, call it what you like, but in 2018 it will be thrust upon you. The IET have made a pact with the NICEIC and others and will update BS7671 at least every 3 years.

This is not my opinion it is fact unfortunately.

Anyway, on a lighter note, a happy new year to all who read me.

Cheers.............Howard

Howard,
I don't believe for a minute that it is a pact with the NICEIC et al, I would believe more that it is more driven by EU harmonisation, and the requirements of BS0 and the ISO/IEC.

Oh the 18th is a few revisions off yet, they can't implement it sooner than BS0 and other intnational rules allow.

However that is IMHO.

Well that sounds like a high quality installation!

There's a bodge it and scarper type metal basket system from Marshall Tufflex called snakeway which I have seen used before for installations of low quality.

Work what out exactly?

Matey - you need to calm down and be less provocative - you are pxssing off half the membership

I really do not want to I swear. I love getting involved and I just need to adjust a bit to the 'etiquette'. It is always hard being a new guy who sticks up for what he thinks is right. It seems as if some don't like an alternative opinion and will not entertain a conversation.

One of the first posts you made I stuck up for your 'alternative' viewpoint, because it was right. Since then you've done nowt but troll for arguments. You're pi$$ing a lot of people off now, and that ain't cool!

Believe me, I know more than most what it can be like putting across alternative views on a cliquey forum as the new boy, and I'm not talking about here. The thing is, there's a difference between an alternative viewpoint, and an alternative viewpoint for the sake of having an alternative viewpoint.

If you've something sensible to say, you'd find people might be happy to converse with you, until then, why not try just not acting like a phallus!
